Process
benchmarking is a unique method developed by Behavioral Pathway
Systems that uses benchmarking
data as a vehicle for the identification
of potential best practices. It is based on the observation that
top performers
use different tactics than others to achieve their
success. Process benchmarking is a structured interactive
exercise
that quantitatively contrasts the methods used by best performers
with others. It is an “evidence-based”
approach that
demonstrates the methods that may contribute to success. Although
process benchmarking is
typically carried out in face-to-face workshop
type settings, it can also be conducted via internet, conference
call,
and web conference platforms.
Almost any type of measurable dimension can be explored using process
benchmarking. Topics of greatest
interest have included outpatient
productivity, client no-shows, staff retention, and marketing.
Process benchmarking is most frequently conducted as a component
of formalized regional benchmarking
initiatives conducted by BPS.
However, it is also available to groups of organizations that wish
to informally
learn from one another in this manner.
Internal process benchmarking applies these same principles within
a single organization. Often, best practices
are within the organization’s
own “back yard”. Process benchmarking can be used to
identify successful
strategies used by the organization’s
top performing clinicians, case managers, programs, and leaders.
BPS is available to conduct process benchmarking within organizations
to explore indices such as:
